Privacy policy
MotoringEvents is a free listings site. You can use it without an account and without telling us who you are. This page explains the small amount of personal data we do handle, and your rights over it.
Last updated 31 October 2026.
Who we are
MotoringEvents (motoringevents.uk) is an independent website run by Richard Harris in the UK. For this policy we are the “controller” of your personal data under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).
To contact us about privacy, including any of the requests below, use the Submit / Contact button at the top of any page, or email richharris1@gmail.com.
What we collect and why
If you use the Submit / Contact form, we collect your name, your email address and whatever you write in the form (such as event details, a website link or a message). We use these to review your submission or correction, add or update listings, and reply to you if we need to. We don’t publish your name or email address, add you to any mailing list, or share them with anyone except the services listed below. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in running an accurate listings site and answering people who contact us. We keep submissions for up to 12 months after we’ve dealt with them, then delete them.
When you visit the site, our hosting provider receives technical information that every website gets, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you request. These are kept briefly in server logs for security and to keep the site running (our legitimate interest). We also use your IP address to estimate your rough location, so the map can start near you. This happens on each visit and isn’t stored.
Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit and which pages they use. It uses cookies and collects information such as pages viewed, approximate location, device and how you arrived on the site. It doesn’t tell us who you are. In the UK and Europe, analytics cookies are only set if you agree in the cookie message.
Advertising. We show ads served by Google AdSense, which help pay for the site. See the next section.
Advertising and cookies
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet. You can read how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
In the UK and Europe, a message from Google asks for your consent before cookies are used for personalised advertising or analytics. If you don’t agree, you may still see ads, but they won’t be based on your browsing. You can opt out of personalised advertising at any time in Google’s Ad Settings, or opt out of other vendors’ personalised ads at aboutads.info or youronlinechoices.eu.
MotoringEvents doesn’t set any cookies of its own. The cookies on this site come from Google Analytics (names starting _ga) and Google’s advertising services (such as __gads, __gpi and __eoi, plus cookies on Google’s own domains). You can change your choice here, or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time:
Who processes your data
We use these services to run the site. Each processes data on our behalf or under its own privacy policy:
- Vercel: website hosting and server logs
- Airtable: stores our listings and Submit / Contact form entries
- Google: Analytics, AdSense advertising and the cookie consent message, plus the web fonts the site uses (your browser fetches them from Google, which sees your IP address)
- api.maptiler.com: map images (your browser fetches them directly, so the provider sees your IP address)
Some of these companies are based in the USA, so your data may be processed there. Where that happens it is protected by legal safeguards, such as the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the UK’s international data transfer agreement and addendum.
We never sell your personal data.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- have it corrected if it’s wrong, or deleted
- object to, or ask us to restrict, how we use it
- receive it in a portable format
- withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on consent
To use any of these rights, contact us using the Submit / Contact button at the top of any page, or email richharris1@gmail.com. We’ll reply within one month. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113, though we’d appreciate the chance to sort it out first.
Children
MotoringEvents isn’t aimed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their personal data.
Links to other websites
Listings link to organisers’ and venues’ own websites. We aren’t responsible for how those sites handle your data, so check their privacy policies before you book or enter.
Changes to this policy
We’ll update this page if what we collect or how we use it changes, for example if we start a newsletter. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
